What are the benefits of eating ocean-fresh seafood? We’re here to tell you! ✨

As well as tasting great, seafood is full of nutritional goodness, and it’s a rich source of protein and essential minerals such as iodine, calcium, iron, and vitamin B, so read on to find out about the particular benefits of making different types of seafood a regular part of your diet.

1. Fish

Because it’s packed with easily digestible protein and full of vitamins and minerals, as well as being low in fat and carbohydrates, fish is widely recognized as being an important part of everyone’s diet, whatever your age or gender.

Fresh shrimp

2.Shrimp has the double advantage of being a perennial favorite among diners and of being versatile enough to be used in a wide variety of dishes. Shrimp is a good source of protein, minerals, and carbohydrates, and if you eat dried shrimp or the small freshwater varieties, you can also eat the shells, which can then be an important source of calcium. This has a major role to play in bone health, and so shrimp can be a particularly important part of the diet for the elderly or others at risk of certain bone-related problems.

3.Squid

Like other types of seafood, squid can provide you with plenty of protein and minerals but it has the disadvantage of also being a source of carbohydrates and cholesterol, so consuming it too often can lead to problems. It’s therefore recommended that you eat it no more than once or twice a week.

4.Crab and other shellfish

These contain calcium, phosphorus, iron and vitamins, so they can provide a lot of nutritional benefit, but they also contain carbohydrates so if you eat too much, you may end up putting on weight.

Most of us know what iodine is, but you might not know that seafood can be an important source of this. Generally, we only need to consume this in small quantities, but if we suffer from a deficiency, this can cause a number of health problems. These can include goiters, which are linked to developmental problems and learning difficulties in children, and thyroid problems in expectant mothers, which can then cause children to be born deaf or mute, or to be affected by other disabilities.

Because it can provide you with a steady supply of high-quality protein and minerals such as health-boosting iodine and bone-preserving calcium, Let's Sea recommends that you make seafood a regular part of your diet. But be careful not to eat too much, and remember that the best diets are those that contain a wide range of ingredients.
