8 Dec 2021, The story of marine animals and ecosystems of Thai ocean

Let's talk about marine animals and the ecosystem of the Thai sea

Today, Let's sea presents an interesting news article about trash/garbage in Thai's ocean, how long does it take to decompose before disappearing? Let's take a look.

In 2018, it was found that 1.15 kg of waste was generated per person per day. This shows that waste is very easy to generate but difficult to decompose/destroy with the reason being that each piece of waste takes a long time to decompose and will result in creating pollutants such as methane in the process of improper disposal. Especially those such as plastic waste and foam in the sea which resulted in the death of many aquatic animals and also destroying the ecosystems such as coral reefs. Before it's too late Let's take a deeper look at how long it takes for each type of waste to be decomposed ,how does it affect people, animals and the environment?

The 10 most common types of litter in the Thai seas are: 1. Plastic bags 2. Plastic bottles 3. Glass bottles 4. Foam boxes 5. Ropes 6. Straws 7. Food bags 8. Bottle caps 9. Cigarette butts and lastly, the fishing nets where these wastes takes a long time to decompose or sometimes not at all. Causing negative effects on the environment such as increase in sewage water, causing the death of marine animals .

Today there is a large amount of plastic waste in the sea. As a result, plastic decomposes into a lot of micro plastics causing harm to ecosystems, marine animals, including people in surrounding areas due to its low density of weight, the trash floats above water mixed with plankton and become food for fish and other aquatic animals. When a person eats a marine animal, they are also potentially ingesting micro plastics causing dangerous issues to their health as the body can not digest. They are also at risk of getting contaminants as well.
