12 August 2022 Did you know Pink Dolphins exist?

The reason dolphins are pink is not from pigment cells but from the color of blood vessels that serve to prevent the occurrence of body temperature not rising too high. The pink dolphin is also the symbol of Khanom district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, which is in the Conservation area of Hat Khanom National Park.

The pink dolphins live around the coast area up to 20 meters below the sea level . The pink dolphins can be found around mangrove forests in shallow water only. This species of dolphins prefers to live in the same location, hardly to relocate and they live close to the coast within 1 kilometer radius.

This is easy for tourists to see, they can be spotted early in the morning. The pink dolphins will be in small groups of about 10, swimming slowly at about 4.8 kilometers per hour and will dive for about 40-60 seconds before emerging to breathe. Sometimes they have aggressive behavior especially when they spot predators come close.

Let's Sea would like to present the guidelines for pink dolphins conservation such as giving knowledge of conservation for fishermen, villagers and the important thing is that the local guides will participate to action.

Because often the local guides and the boatman have been sailing the boat close to dolphins to want tourists to see dolphins closely, this behavior causing the dolphins to feel stressed.

The dolphin tour viewing should not approach to close and should limit to 100 meters only and do not make a noise to disturb the dolphins etc. This is to support pink dolphins to stay in the Thai sea for longer.
